It is surrounded by orchards and vineyards, and is famous for its large production of wine.〔(Abruzzo Today - Ari )〕 The noble Orsini family of Lanciano (ancient Anxanum) dominated this small town. The first historical mention of the town was in reference to its church San Pietro di Ari which belonged to the monastery of San Liberatore a Majella.
